We have created a unique event that exclusively focuses on the strategic challenges facing the most senior HR leaders in the UK’s large law firms. Our stimulating and highly interactive programme looks out beyond the day-job and scans the horizon as the fundamental nature of legal work and the legal workforce shifts around us and as firms look to their HR leaders to anticipate, interpret and adopt very different ways of working.
Amidst dramatically changing business models, generational attitudes and capabilities, mobile and agile working and – of course – an intensifying war for talent, how CHROs and their departments reposition themselves and influence those around them to achieve is a thread that runs through the day. Programme highlights include our keynote speaker, Lucy Adams, author of the recently published – and very successful – book ‘Disruptive HR’ and leading consultant on people and HR issues, to kick off the event. Lucy will lay out her case for why HR has to change, in characteristically lively and challenging style, drawing on her fascinating experience leading HR at the BBC and a career in senior HR roles which includes leading HR at Eversheds.
Our guest presenter on Managing the impact of generational diversity is Doctor Michael Gill, a member of the internationally-regarded faculty at University of Bath’s School of Management – which has more top 10 rankings in HR Magazine’s ‘Most Influential HR Thinkers 2016’ than any other institution. Michael’s is a member of the Future of Work (FoW) research centre and his work has included studies of lawyers and other professions. His engaging and thought-provoking take on how organisations will be impacted as more of the millennial generation enter the workforce is one of our highlights of day 2.
Our conference co-host Chris Bull is Executive Director of legal & professional service advisory firm Kingsmead Square and brings his extensive experience in law firm management to present a panel examination of the changing nature of law firm organisation design and governance, as structures and C-suite roles that were once the preserve of large corporations become embedded in professional partnerships. Charlie Keeling, who has held HRD and COO roles at firms including FieldFisher, Clydes and DAC Beachcroft, is our other co-host and he will lead our day 2 session ‘Introducing your next generation lawyers’. In debate with a panel of other legal HR luminaries, Charlie will explore the changing nature of attracting, hiring, retaining and developing talent in the age of millennials, Apprentices, ‘not going to Uni’, specialist paralegals, virtual and freelance lawyers. Vis-à-Vis events are not all stimulating debate and insight either. Somehow, we manage to squeeze in more time to network and get to know your fellow attendees – including senior representatives from some of the most influential service providers to the legal HR sector – than comparable events.

Not all luxury hotels in Hertfordshire or Bedfordshire are the same, and at Luton Hoo there is simply so much to enjoy and experience that we have our own fleet of specially customized London taxis to ferry our guests around the estate. The only difference being that our taxi cabs are free.
With excellent transport links between St. Pancras and Luton Parkway railway stations, we are as easily reached from London as we are from nearby Cambridge. And Luton Airport puts us in touch with cities from all over Europe.

Leave the M1 at Junction 10 signposted Luton Airport. Drive along the dual carriageway and take the 1st exit to the left signposted “A1081 St Albans and Harpenden”. Keep bearing left until you get to a roundabout. There are brown signs saying “Luton Hoo” to the left. Take the 1st exit to the left and you will go under the dual carriageway. At the 2nd roundabout take the 2nd exit (straight on) and continue on the A1081 towards St Albans and Harpenden. Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf and Spa is approximately ½ mile on the left hand side
Luton Parkway Station is situated a 5 minute taxi ride away and is served by First Capital Connect with a frequent 30 minute service into the City of London. From Central London there is a regular Northern Line underground service to the International Terminal Link – St Pancras serving the Eurostar route.
